Travel yourself interestingYou’ve probably seen this one during the commercial breaks on TV and paid it very little attention, but this is one of very few adverts around right now that has some real insight behind it.

From the creative’s at Ogilvy and Mather London, Expedia’s Travel Yourself Interesting campaign has actually been around for a while now, but the latest instalment really hits the nail on the head.

People who have seen the world are in general; more interesting than those who have vacationed at home, or never vacationed at all. It’s not just about what you see or do, or how many air miles you’ve clocked up, it’s also about having the dreams and ambitions; being the kind of person who thinks outside of their immediate vicinity and actually leaves it once in a while.

Let’s face it, with who would you rather have a conversation- the couple who’ve just got back from a week down south, in a caravan, or the guy who has just returned from a week in Las Vegas?

The campaign takes the insight and dramatises it, we see a talented magician being outshone by the bloke who has just been to Hawaii and in the second a change in work-place dynamics.

Having been to several places of interest myself, I can tell you that it does indeed make you a more layered person, with random nuggets of information that others may find interesting and indeed useful.

FYI if you are heading to Las Vegas makesure to take a walk down the strip at sunset, and if you find yourself vacationing in Miami, enjoying a day on South Beach- apply factor 50… LOTS of it!
